The art world is changing, growing by leaps and bounds yet the art community is becoming smaller and smaller.  By smaller I of course don't mean the populace but smaller in the sense that today your art neighbor, whether they be in Russia, China or South Dakota, are only microseconds away.  We can share our art and thoughts with anyone anywhere as fast as it takes to click 'send'.  It was only a few years ago that I remember being totally impressed that I could send original art via second day from MN to CA.  Today the art is already printed by day 2.  DeviantART has grown by leaps and bounds as well, I joined DeviantART 3 years ago today and

Well, I'm back at Deviant Art after a few years tearing around the country doing renaissance festivals and art shows.  It's hard to be productive when on the road!  I have a number of new pieces some of which are already posted here.  I'm still doing art the old fashioned way… pushing pencil, pastel and brush around on a board ;o)  Though I completely envy and admire the new computer generated work I'm seeing, awesome work!  I wish I could sit down with one of you and have you show me how it's done; I'd love to try it myself!  Anyone live in Minnesota ;o) Well, back to my pushing the old pencil ;o) Till later, Steven

At a recent art gathering I observed some colleagues of mine having a rather tense discussion on the importance of different art forms, namely their own.  It immediately brought to mind a similar debate the renaissance artists had. The common ground of all the arts is of course personal expression with each having their own vehicle or medium.  I like to think of them not as separate entities but rather a sort of artistic ecosystem, thriving in each other's company.  The poet paints with words.  The musician speaks with his instrument and the painter sings a song with her brush.
